TAXATION
Do you want to improve your purchasing power? By paying less taxes?
Since January 1, 2013, French people and in general European nationals can benefit from the status of Non-Habitual Resident (RNH) in Portugal.
This regime allows certain categories of assets and retirees to benefit from competitive tax advantages such as, for example, a 0% tax on certain income received abroad such as private sector pensions. To benefit from these advantages for a period of 10 years, French nationals must become Portuguese tax residents and certify that they have been present in Portugal for 183 days.
We have a network of tax experts who will be able to advise you and investigate your file to obtain this status.
How to obtain RNH status in Portugal?
To gain access to the Non-Habitual Resident Status, it is necessary to apply for it to the Portuguese tax authorities. Two conditions must be met to have access to it: Stay at least 183 days per year in Portugal with a permanent residence there, and not have been taxed in Portugal during the last 5 years preceding the application.
In order to carry out this procedure in the best conditions, it is advisable to have recourse to a specialist. Be careful, however, to also validate your situation in relation to the French Tax Administration, to avoid a requalification. The date of the move launches the ten-year exemption statement from Portuguese tax.
Income Tax in Portugal
The equivalent of the French income tax is called IRS (Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Singulares). It is paid by employees and retirees who live in Portugal. After the 10 years of exemption provided for by the NHR Statute have elapsed, a foreign retiree will be submitted to the IRS.
Fortune Tax - ISF
The Solidarity Tax on Fortune (ISF) does not exist in Portugal.
HEALTH
The latest world health report assessed the Portuguese health system and placed it 12th in the ranking of the World Health Organization (WHO). It is located in front of Monaco, Ireland and other European countries, thus guaranteeing you quality care.
