LISBON DISTRICTS
Each district of Lisbon has a soul, a history and a special atmosphere. Lisbon is a city that can be visited on foot, which is why it is easier to explore it when you know how to approach it and where to go. Passing through Alfama, Bairro Alto, Príncipe Real, Chiado ... they all have something to offer us!
It is therefore through the most interesting districts of Lisbon that we are going to discover the city. The districts located to the south of Lisbon and caressing the banks of the Tagus, Baixa and Chiado (Praça do Comercio included) are quite indivisible. They have one thing in common: both were rebuilt after the famous earthquake of 1755.
One is very linear, according to the will of the Marquis de Pombal: Baixa. The other has a more typical architecture: Chiado. Both retain a desire to maintain a traditional side, even if the enormous increase in tourists has facilitated the establishment of more trendy than traditional shops and restaurants.
Chiado is formerly the district where artists and other young hopefuls from rich Lisbon met. Today it is a mix between grace and adaptation to the tourist wave. There are as many busy shopping streets as there are small boutiques, cafes and old signs that keep up with an evolving neighborhood.
